The Ash Cloud

What started off as a bonus week (a freebie through our membership) with our holiday club in Portugal, then a second week we decided to add on, extended to a third week courtesy of the ash cloud! No problems as far as we were concerned as the weather was great, Vi and I relaxed after a very busy year and recharged the batteries. I also finished a short story for theLinen Hall competition back in Belfast.

The website is now attracting new visitors and a lot of interest, especially from a few who are interested in building their own websites. Hope it helps.

My latest news is that I have a cataract that needs to be dealt with ASAP and another one developing in the other eye. Not ideal news for a writer!

Finished the Book

Finally got the rewrite done on my book.

If there are any agents or publishers out there who have connections with Hollywood please get in touch!!

Meantime I’m off to Portugal tomorrow for a couple of weeks break – hopefully to recharge the batteries and do some work on my website.

On the book: If anyone wants an overview on what its about let me know and I’ll send a sheet. I may put it on the website.

Nearly Finished

I’ve been working on an idea for an adventure story called Timecrack on and off for a number of years now. A sci-fi/fantasy story aimed at the young adult market, I’m nearly finished with the latest draft and thinking of putting it on www.Authonomy.com Any writers out there who have tried this site as an outlet for their stories?

An Apology

First and foremost – a BIG APOLOGY!

My publisher initially set up this blog to promote my book of short stories An Unexpected Diagnosis, using the same title for the blog. However, I’ve now changed this to the title StorytellersWorld.com to match my new website as there will be a lot more there to write about.

I’ve spent so much time working on the website - and a new book - that everything else has fallen to one side. Anyway, the blog is ready and I’m aiming at updating as often as I can, probably once or twice a week.

My apologies again to those who were kind enough to get in touch and may not have received a response. I’ll try and do better!

When it was confirmed – in a very matter-of-fact way – that I had prostate cancer, I think I just nodded. It was as if I was hearing at a distance the news about someone else – it was their problem, not mine. It was something I might read about in the health sections of the daily newspapers, and then move quickly on to something more entertaining. Even after eighteen months of tests, scans etc.,I couldn’t accept straight away that I had the dreaded disease. It really was an unexpected diagnosis. I was lucky. Although I’d experienced no symptoms, the cancer had been picked up during an early medical examination and PSA test with my GP. I read recently that Andrew LLoyd Webber had also been diagnosed with prostate cancer,and like myself has come through the surgery successfully. But it was down to early diagnosis and treatment. When you think of the statistics: every year 35,000 men in the UK contract the killer disease and over 10,000 will die from it, it makes you wonder why more men don’t take the PSA test. My own story is told in An Unexpected Diagnosis along with a few other short stories I’ve written, and hopefully it will enlighten as well as entertain.
